When the impressive complex of the funeral hall with the crematorium was completed at the South Cemetery in 1910, not only were postcards printed of it, but visiting hours had to be arranged due to the great interest. After a brief introduction to the history of burial, we will tour the restored complex of the funeral hall and the chapel facility. We will introduce you to the chapel facility both inside and out. The 60m tall bell tower dominates the neo-Romanesque ensemble of buildings, where the monastery complex Maria Laach in the Eifel serves as a model. The chapel building is the largest cemetery structure in Germany. The crematorium and columbarium blend inconspicuously into the overall picture.
