High above the Zschopau Valley on the edge of the Ore Mountains stands Augustusburg Castle. Elector Augustus of Saxony had this monumental Renaissance castle built over 450 years ago as a symbol of his power. Today, it houses cultural treasures and exhibitions that are unparalleled. What actually hides behind all the many doors of Augustusburg Castle, which are usually closed to visitors? On our discovery tour, we open these doors as we ascend and descend the stairs, taking you to the most beautiful and historically significant places in Augustusburg Castle. Our journey through history begins in the Lindenhaus, where Elector Augustus of Saxony was accommodated with his family and received high-ranking guests in the Kaisersaal. From the “Trumpeter's Chair”, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view. The daily working life of the staff is made more tangible in the Economic Courtyard. At the Well House, you’ll gain insight into the difficult water supply situation at the castle in the 16th century. However, a “water tasting” will show you that the quality is still excellent.
