High above the Zschopautal at the edge of the Erzgebirge, Castle Augustusburg towers majestically. Elector Augustus of Saxony had the monumental Renaissance castle built over 450 years ago as a symbol of his power. Today, it houses cultural treasures and exhibitions that are second to none. The castle museum surprises with impressive exhibitions on hunting animals and ornithology, as well as the history of hunting and the castle itself. The Venus Hall captivates with wall paintings from the 16th century that are unique in the German-speaking world. VENUS HALL - EXHIBITION ON HUNTING ANIMALS AND COURT KEEPING: In the Venus Hall, the Thannhäuser Sage is showcased, and in the adjoining rooms, weapons, historical furniture, and courtly clothing can be viewed. HUNTING ANIMAL AND ORNITHOLOGY MUSEUM: The museum is dedicated to the fauna of the Erzgebirge, featuring 120 impressive dioramas of displayed mammals and birds.
