High above the Zschopau Valley on the edge of the Ore Mountains stands Augustusburg Castle. Elector Augustus of Saxony had this monumental Renaissance castle built over 450 years ago as a symbol of his power. Today, it houses cultural treasures and exhibitions that are second to none. On our discovery tour through Augustusburg Castle, you will learn how the Renaissance castle took shape. In the prince's chambers in the Linden House, our guides share interesting insights and give glimpses into the daily life and court life of the princely family. You can admire the only surviving joint portrait of Prince Augustus and Princess Anna with their children on the altar painting in the castle church. It was created by Lucas Cranach the Younger and is a precious work of art of European significance. Finally, you will visit the fountain house with the second-deepest well and the oldest preserved water-driven treadmill in Saxony. This masterpiece of water supply ensured the management of the castle at over 500 meters above sea level. Multimedia elements complement the tour and allow you to dive even deeper into the 16th century!
