It was founded as a training center by and for deaconesses, who lived and worked here in a sisterhood. During our tour of the grounds, we will introduce you to the history of this charitable institution. Since 1900, the Deaconess Hospital located in the Lindenau district of Leipzig has been a premier contact point for people in need of medical assistance. It was founded as a training center by and for deaconesses, who lived and worked here in a sisterhood. During our tour of the grounds, we will introduce you to the history of this charitable institution. Our walk also leads to the Lindenau Cemetery, where many deaconesses have found their final resting place. A thematic focus of the tour will also be the controversial relationship between the state and the church in the GDR. Churches and diaconal institutions were centers of resistance against the communist dictatorship.
