Theater Chemnitz is also the home of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra (Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie). In addition to its work as a theater orchestra, the internationally acclaimed ensemble gives numerous symphony concerts, special concerts, chamber concerts and tours Germany and abroad. During its 170-year history many world-famous conductors and composers have performed with the orchestra, including Rudolf Kempe, Richard Strauss, Max Reger, Paul Hindemith, Fritz Busch, Franz Konwitschny and Hermann Abendroth. The Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra is committed to the nurture of Schumann's works, compositions by Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, Shostakovich and Prokofiev, and the promotion of contemporary music.
