The first Gohlis cemetery was located near Möckernschen and Breitenfelder Straße. The further growth of the village into a district also necessitated the establishment of the new cemetery around 1868. The chapel building was consecrated in 1893 and constructed in the neoclassical style. Along with the well-preserved chapel, the beautiful old trees with their historically grown avenues are particularly characteristic of the cemetery. Notable graves in the cemetery include those of the former estate owner and local judge Christian Schlippe, the sculptor Max Alfred Brumme, the Egyptologist Siegfried Morenz, and the zoo director Ludwig Zukowsky.
