Exhibition "The Schumanns and Chemnitz"

At a glance

Unimaginably worth seeing - Zwickau in the Capital of Culture year 2025

Robert Schumann's father August Schumann provided a comprehensive description of the city of Chemnitz at the beginning of the 1820s in his Post-, Staats- und Zeitungslexikon. Clara Schumann performed three times in Chemnitz as part of her career as a pianist. In 1862, she negotiated with the local music director Hermann Mannsfeldt about a further appearance, which was ultimately not realized. Robert Schumann worked with Chemnitz singers such as Amalie Scholl and Rosalie Tittel - the latter was even his student at the Leipzig Conservatory. A special exhibition at the Robert Schumann House from June 7 to September 2025 sheds light on these relationships between the Schumann family and the city of Chemnitz.
