The laboratory village of Bockau is located in the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park at an altitude of 450 to 550 m above sea level. Bockau invites you to hike, stroll, or bike with its surrounding forests and healthy air. Those seeking relaxation will find peace and tranquility along unspoiled streams, biotopes, and hiking and cycling trails. Numerous reservoirs are nestled amidst the charming mountainous landscape. Mining and the profession of laboratory assistants have shaped Bockau's history. The cultivation of medicinal herbs, particularly the angelica plant, as well as the production and distribution of pharmaceuticals and herbal liqueurs, have a centuries-old tradition. For this reason, Bockau is also called "Wurzelbucke."
