St. Annen Church Annaberg-Buchholz

At a glance

St. Annen Church is a European masterpiece and the biggest late gothic hall church in Saxony.

The 78 meter high tower of St. Anne coins the silhouette of the Ore Mountain´s town. Especially in art history, St. Anne's Church is a treasure: It is considered one of the greatest examples of late Gothic.

The interior decoration in St Anne’s Church in Annaberg, completed in 1525, remained intact with its impressive wealth of form and artistic perfection. The artist Franz Maidburg created 100 reliefs for the gallery balustrades, ten representations of the ages of men and women and 80 illustrations of Biblical stories. The baptismal font was made by Hans Witten, as was the truly “Beautiful Door”, which was once part of the Franciscan monastery.
