Colditz Castle is located in the heart of Saxony on the banks of the Zwickauer Mulde. The castle building with its white gables was an important internment camp for high-ranking officers of the Western Allies during the Second World War. Primarily British, Dutch and French military personnel were imprisoned in "Oflag (Officers' Camp) IV C". The escape museum is dedicated to around 300 documented escape attempts, some of which were incredibly creative. Guests can stay in royal style at the Europa Youth Hostel in the castle.
