Pillnitz Palace & Park

At a glance

The former pleasure palace and later summer residence of the Saxon royal family was often the scene of many weddings and celebrations during the time of August the Strong. Since the 20th century, museums have moved into the palace and the palace park is the most beautiful recreational oasis in the city for Dresdeners and tourists from all over the world.

The playful summer palace with its magnificent park is located on Dresden's eastern outskirts. Augustus the Strong had given the old Renaissance palace as a gift to his mistress Countess Cosel. When she fell from grace, he moved in again. Little by little, the present complex of water and mountain palace, new palace and Fliederhof, Milan railroad and palm house was built. The large open staircase directly on the Elbe served as a landing stage for the court of Augustus the Strong on its way to the summer resort.
