Herrnhuter Sterne (Moravian Stars Manufactory)

At a glance

On 365 days of the year it is possible to experience the manufacture of the Herrnhut stars.

The Herrnhuter Sterne GmbH is located in east Saxon Herrnhut, place of origin of the Moravian Church. Already more than 160 years ago, the stars have been made by hand. 31 years have passed from the first model sheet for the 1894 star to the patent application of the first solidly built, bodiless Herrnhut star with 25 points in 1952. Until today, the star has almost not changed its traditional appearance and until today, they are handmade.

On 365 days of the year it is possible to experience the manufacture of the Herrnhut stars and to be awed by a stellar splendour in all kinds of colours and sizes. At the work stations you can follow the development of a paper star from the beginning on. The habit to assemble the star together with the family and to put it up on the first advent has a long tradition and is closely connected with the history of the Moravian Church, a protestant Free Church. This tradition is still alive, it heralds the start of Christmas time.
