Herrnhuter Sterne (Moravian Stars Manufactory)

At a glance

Herrnhuter Sterne Manufaktur - a place for 365 days of Christmas!

The first Herrnhut stars were handmade in Herrnhut, the birthplace of the Moravian Church, over 180 years ago. Initially conceived in maths lessons in the boarding schools of the Moravian Church, they have been made by hand and sent out into the world since 1897. The shape of the self-supporting construction, which is still in use today, was patented in 1925. To this day, the Herrnhut Star has retained its traditional appearance with its 17 square and triangular points, is made by hand and is only genuine with 25 points.

In the Herrnhuter Sterne Manufaktur it is Christmas 365 days a year. Visitors can experience the production of Herrnhut stars and be impressed by the splendour of stars in all colours and sizes. At the workstations, the creation of a paper star can be followed from the very beginning. Your own creativity is called for in the world of discovery, where you can make your own stars in all different sizes and take a very special souvenir home with you. Because the custom of building the star together as a family and hanging it up on the first Sunday in Advent is still a living tradition, closely linked to the history of the Moravian Church, a Protestant free church, and traditionally heralds the contemplative Christmas season.
