In the exhibition, a historical photo shows the first participation in the fair in March 1916 in the Leipzig City Department Store, already six months after the company was founded. Hot summer days invite you to linger in the large garden of the manufactory, to rest and collect ideas. Very private snapshots give an authentic insight into the life of the Wendt family and let visitors participate in the summer in the Manufaktur-Garten. Before the busy pre-Christmas season in the workshops concentrates all energies, the early autumn brings the desire to travel to life again: Pictures of company trips show the joyful get-together of the factory employees. In winter, the white snow cover sometimes lays over green groves for weeks – often a lot of fun for the employees: a photo from around 1940 shows them using the slope of the company premises for sledding and skiing during breaks.
“In the new special exhibition, we provide insights into the company’s more than 100-year history and production processes. At the same time, we give an impression of the life of the company’s founder Grete Wendt and her family. The focus is on the photo collection of our extensive corporate archive”, explains Marlis Rokitta, research assistant and curator of the exhibition. And he adds: “With more than 90 photographs and about 70 other exhibits, we want to convey a sense of which themes determine our manufactory at which time – then and now. ”
