With GREAT BARRIER REEF, Yadegar Asisi is dedicating himself to one of the greatest natural wonders on earth from March 27, 2026. The monumental 360° panorama shows the fascinating underwater world of our planet's largest coral reef in overwhelming detail and color intensity. Visitors are immersed in a world that usually remains hidden from them - shimmering corals, colorful schools of fish and the mysterious play of light in the ocean depths unfold at a height of 27 meters and over 3,000 square meters of panoramic space.

Guests experience the fragile beauty of one of the most species-rich habitats on earth from the fictitious perspective below the surface of the sea. The panorama condenses different water depths and habitats into an overall artistic composition that is also scientifically sound. The work is based on tens of thousands of underwater photographs and sketches that Asisi collected on several expeditions with the Australian documentary filmmaker Ben Cropp. A specially composed soundscape by Eric Babak complements the visual presentation: atmospheric sounds, music and light changes between day and night allow visitors to immerse themselves completely in the underwater world.

Accompanying the panorama, the Panometer Dresden offers an exhibition with information about the biodiversity and ecological significance of the Great Barrier Reef. It also addresses the increasing threat to this unique natural habitat - from the threat of climate change to the consequences of human intervention.

With his monumental panoramas of nature, Yadegar Asisi creates immersive worlds of images that realign our view of our environment. He is not interested in purely documentary depiction, but in artistic condensation: different impressions, spaces and perspectives are merged into an overall picture that allows visitors to expand their perception. In this way, Asisi combines scientific precision with artistic freedom to make the beauty and fragility of nature impressively tangible. GREAT BARRIER REEF is also an expression of this process: the panorama has been developed several times since its premiere in the Panometer Leipzig (2015-2017) and in Pforzheim (2018-2023). "The panorama is never complete," emphasizes Asisi - each new presentation offers the opportunity to condense visual worlds and develop them further with new insights.
