Ernst Rietschel, born in Pulsnitz in 1804, was one of the most important sculptors of the 19th century and founder of the Dresden School of Sculpture.
His most famous works are the Luther monument in Worms, the Lessing statue in Braunschweig and the double portrait of Goethe and Schiller in Weimar. His birthplace is located in Pulsnitz and has been used as a gallery by the Ernst-Rietschel-Kulturring e.V. since 2000. The association puts on around six exhibitions of fine art every year. A memorial plaque at Ernst Rietschel's birthplace commemorates the sculptor with the dates of his life.
