The third season of the Leipzig chamber music festival Con spirito, from 3 to 10 September 2023, looks at the era of the late Romantic period and the following generation under the motto "Transfigured Nights".
The festival is organised by the Schumann-Verein Leipzig.
What began in Leipzig with the Schumanns, Mendelssohn and Wagner had audible effects on the entire development of music in Europe and beyond. A richly branching network of the following generation emerged, which artistic director Peter Bruns depicts in individual strands in the Con spirito programme. Masterpieces such as the string sextets by Johannes Brahms and Arnold Schönberg ("Transfigured Night") and the piano quartets by Antonín Dvořák and Gustav Mahler will be performed. At the same time, there is plenty of room for rarely performed treasures, such as Robert Schumann's Andante and Variations for Two Pianos, Two Violoncellos and Horn op. 46.
The programme features musicians such as Lauma Skride and Christoph Traxler (piano), Sergey Ostrovsky and Tobias Feldmann (violin) Sibylle Mahni (horn) and cellists Marie Hallynck and Peter Bruns in various chamber music settings.
