Annual exhibition "ALTER EGO Raubkopie - A multimedia puppet show in three rooms"

At a glance

For the first annual exhibition of the Puppet Theatre Collection at its new location at Kraftwerk Mitte, the internationally renowned label Rimini Protokoll is conceiving, designing and realising an immersive and multimedia installation. From 7 September 2024 to 29 June 2025, Kraftwerk Mitte in Dresden will present the first annual exhibition "ALTER EGO Raubkopie - Ein multimediales Puppenspiel in drei Räumen".The audience travels through a course of several rooms and falls under the spell of an automated production in which the puppet theatre is understood as a metaphor for a digital world full of invisible threads.

A puppet with the likeness of Elon Musk is at the centre of the immersive and multimedia production. Designed by puppet maker Christian Werdin, at first glance it appears to be a classic marionette. However, it is controlled by a robot that was specially developed by the Contemporary Puppetry programme at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. The project thematises manipulation, loss of control and the question of who is actually playing whom. It was supported by MUSEIS SAXONICIS USUI - Friends of the State Art Collections.
