The Wurzener Land cycling route is a beautiful and scenic circular bike route through the northern part of the Porphyrland National Geopark.

The start and end point of this interesting route is the town of Wurzen with its numerous sights. The city silhouette with the mill towers of the former Krietschwerke, the cathedral and castle complex, and the city church arouses curiosity for more. We take the time to explore the city center - on a discovery tour through the old town with its special charm and remarkable visual appeal. Renaissance and Baroque buildings as well as newer structures with rich Art Nouveau facades together shape the flair of the town.

The more than 1050-year history has left many traces. The historic fabric of one of the oldest towns in Saxony with the St. Marien Cathedral and castle, the former residence of the Meissen bishops, can be explored on a walk along the "Ringelnatz Path." Dedicated to the artist Joachim Ringelnatz, it leads to the most important sights of the extensively restored old town. The most beautiful Renaissance building is undoubtedly the museum with its exhibition on the rich art and cultural history of the city and the Ringelnatz collection. After touring the city, we find peace and quiet in the parks with extensive tree stocks and the city forest, which passes quarries and connects to the excursion area of the "Hohburg mountains." On newly created and restored paths you can cycle comfortably here. A variety of excursion destinations and recreational opportunities as well as the magnificent landscape along the Mulde river with a unique, largely natural and protected animal and plant world make the Wurzener Land touristically attractive and very experiential.

Cyclists can reach the Mulde city by many routes. There are a number of long-distance bike paths crossing Wurzen. The regional bike path network is continuously expanded. In the city, the Mulderadweg intersects with the Leipzig-Elbe cycling route. This ensures optimal connection of the town to the long-distance bike path network both from north to south and from east to west, making Wurzen a central starting point for tours in the region.

Along the route of our circular bike tour through the northern part of the Geopark are some interesting points such as Canitz Park and geological landmarks like the quarries around Böhlitz, which clearly illustrate the regional importance of rock extraction. Two visitor centers of the Porphyrland Geopark are located on the way. The geoportal "Time – Change – Stone" in the Röcknitz manor house and the geoportal Museum Steinarbeiterhaus in Hohburg offer informative exhibitions about the surroundings. The traces of the ice ages can be explored at the Spielberg in Böhlitz and at the Kleiner Berg near Hohburg.
