The remains of the city wall are worth seeing as evidence of Görlitz's history. You can still trace the course of the defensive ring in Görlitz's townscape today.
Most medieval towns were laid out in such a way that you could walk around the town wall in an hour. Large parts of Görlitz's town wall have been preserved to this day. Walk along the former city wall and discover one of the oldest parts of the city.
During the tour, you will see the Nikolaiturm - the oldest fortification in the city, the so-called Ochsenbastei. The Nikolaizwinger and the Ochsenbastei have been turned into beautiful green spaces and are open to the public from April to October.
The Kaisertrutz and the Reichenbach Tower are another part of the old city defenses - both are now part of the Museum of Cultural History. The tower is one of the most beautiful town towers in the country and can be visited during museum opening hours.
The Fat Tower - was also known as the Women's Tower or Stone Tower. During the summer months, you can climb the tower on Thursdays with a guided tour.
Outside the tour there is another important part of the city wall - the Finstertor, the only preserved city gate is located in the Nikolaivorstadt.
You can also book this tour as a guided tour at the Görlitz Information Office.
