We start at the Rosengarten directly on the Elberadweg in the Dresden Neustadt. It goes through the colorful neighborhood, the "Äußere Neustadt", in a few minutes directly into the Dresden Heath. The tour leads along beautiful forest paths along the Prießnitz. The first part of the route is always slightly uphill to leave the Elbe valley. At the eastern edge of the city, near Ullersdorf, the forest paths end. Now it goes over field paths into the Schönfeld highlands and up the Triebenberg. It is the highest elevation of the town with 383 meters. From here you can enjoy great views all the way to Saxon Switzerland. After a few more beautiful trails, the tour turns around and heads sharply downhill past Bonnewitz back into the Elbe Valley to the village of Graupa. Here a visit to the Richard Wagner sites is worthwhile. Richard Wagner lived in the Schäferschen Gut in Graupa during his time as court chapel master in Dresden (1842-1849) and conceived his Lohengrin here.
We drive directly to the vineyards of Dresden, to Pillnitz. Here, one destination in particular is worthwhile: the Zimmerling Winery. Tasteful wines, great cakes and a cozy spot invite you to take a break. Afterwards, we ride to the picturesque vineyard church and those who still have strength leave the bike for a short while and hike up the Wünschendorfer Straße across the vineyards to the Leitenweg to enjoy the fantastic view of Dresden. After this short detour on foot, we continue the tour on the Elbe Cycle Path, past the Blue Wonder and back to the "Outer New Town".
