Altenberg is mainly known as a traditional winter sports location – having hosted sixteen World Championships in bobsledding, luge, and biathlon. But the region's rich sporting history can also be wonderfully explored by bike.
This varied route takes you past the world-renowned Rodel and Bobsleigh Track as well as the Biathlon Sparkassen Arena. A special highlight awaits you at the site of the former Biathlon Arena, where the World Championship took place in 1967. Today, the area has been re-naturalized and is part of a protected natural space. In late spring, the area transforms into a glowing sea of blooms of the broad-leaved marsh orchid – a quiet, impressive contrast to its sporting past.
