This short tour takes you south of the Zschopau over hill and dale, past witnesses of medieval mining and along the Zschopau.

There are many hiking trails in and around Zschopau, but no tour is as varied on a short distance as this one.

From Wildeck Castle, you walk over the Zschopau bridge up the old Marienberger Straße to Zschopenberg primary school. Via the Wurzelweg (root path) you reach the K8174 and follow it into town until you reach the Steghaus. Take a narrow path past the house on the right and you will come directly to the Zschopau. Here, the site of the Holy Trinity Mine invites you to have a picnic.

Continue upstream until you reach the ski jumps of the winter sports centre "Am Zschopenberg". From there it's just a short walk along Obere Mühlstraße and over the Zschopau bridge back to the castle.

There is still enough energy left after the tour to climb the 144 steps of the keep "Dicker Heinrich" in the castle courtyard of Wildeck Castle. (Museums and tower open according to opening hours).
