Yes, there is such a thing at the foot of the small town of Wolkenstein. But first things first: quite early on, 150 years ago, steam locomotives were already puffing along in the Zschopau valley. After truly groundbreaking cuts were made in the rocky valley of the Ore Mountains and valleys were bridged, passengers and goods were transported between Chemnitz and Annaberg. Following renovations, modern railcars now run, but goods are hardly ever transported. In Wolkenstein, the first wagons were initially placed on the tracks no longer required for reloading between the actual station and the valley road. A little later, people thought why not also hang up disused sleeping cars. Railroad history and the present now come together on the site.

The gem is surrounded by a romantic rocky landscape created by the Zschopau river and its tributaries over millions of years. There are numerous hiking routes for active recreation, some of which also reveal evidence of Wolkenstein's mining history. In particular, hikers on the Alpine hiking trail Wolkenstein, which has been designated as a circular route, often have the railroad line in view. The Brückenklippe viewing platform in Wolkenstein Switzerland is a popular photo location for railroad fans.

Tip: It is also worth getting on the Zschopau Valley Railway to explore other interesting places along the route.
