The Obstland route consists of three thematically different sub-routes. On the route in the Mügeln surroundings, the history of the origin of the Obstland is the focus.
1241 – Siegfried von Mügeln founded the monastery “St. Marienthal”. Thus, Sornzig – thanks to the nuns of the Cistercian order – became the historical cradle of fruit growing in the Mügeln region. In 1539 the monastery was dissolved due to the Reformation and remained a state estate with changing owners until 1892. Fruit growing truly blossomed anew through the Leipzig city planner Ludolf Colditz, who founded the Kloster Gärtnerei GmbH Sornzig in 1895. Expropriation of the Colditz family in 1946. Fruit growing was then continued successfully in an LPG and since 1990 in Klosterobst GmbH. The listed ensemble of the monastery in Sornzig is today a popular place for encounters, education, and recreation. It is located in the middle of a park landscape with three orchards (wild and meadow orchards). The sponsor is the Dr. Ludolf Colditz Foundation Kloster Marienthal.
