The confluence of the Freiberg and Zwickau Mulde rivers near Sermuth is a fantastic starting point for the tour along the Vereinigte Mulde. The route initially heads north to Kössern on a road with little traffic. Here we can take a short break at the manor house or follow the main road towards Großbothen. After crossing the Mulde for the first time, we follow the road to Kleinbothen, turn left in the village and then right again shortly afterwards. We pass the outdoor pool on the left and immediately turn right again onto the gravel path. Now we follow the forest path very close to the Mulde, past the Schaddelmühle geoportal and the ferry landing stage at Höfgen, until we reach Nimbschen Monastery. We continue along the asphalt path until we cross the main road and then continue along the path until we reach the entrance to Grimma. We change sides of the road and ride straight down the (steep!) hill on the right-hand side, also straight ahead, past the blue Grimma suspension bridge, directly into the historic town center. We now keep to the right and cross the expansive, historically restored Pöppelmann Bridge in the town center. Just after the bridge, we keep left again along the Mulde and follow the asphalt path on the former railroad line. On the following 16 almost dead-straight kilometers, we cross the Golzern paper mill, pass the mighty concrete pillars of the Autobahn 14 and follow the route past Neichen and Nerchau through a fantastic landscape of the Mulde floodplains. In Dehnitz, we keep right as we enter the village and then immediately turn left again. We can now either head directly towards the town of Wurzen or visit the Wachtelturm tower on the right, from where we can enjoy a sweeping view of the wonderful Mulde landscape.
