We leave the train station in Holzhau, turn left and leave the town behind us. After a short time, we cross the Mulde - a rather small rivulet in the upper reaches - cross the road and change to the forest path alongside the road, which runs close to the river. Behind the pond house, we change to the hiking trail that runs parallel to the road on the right. From here, the border crossing to the Czech Republic is already signposted, which we pass - and enjoy the fantastic view. We follow the path until it meets a road. Then we continue straight on to the Czech village of Moldava. After around 700 meters, we see the village church on the right-hand side. About one kilometer further on, the road branches off to the right over a small bridge. We take this junction and follow the steep ascent. In between, we pass typical Czech inns and a few bungalows, the forest thickens. In a sudden left-hand bend, we see a sign on the right that leads us along a forest path to the source of the Freiberg Mulde. We enjoy the sound of the forest and the subsequent descent back to Holzhau!
