Although this section of the path between Waldheim and Kriebstein is only 5 km long, the hiker can expect a beautiful route along the Zschopau river with a magnificent view of the panorama of the historic town of Waldheim and Kriebstein Castle, which is considered Saxony's most beautiful knight's castle.

The route starts at the imposing town hall of Waldheim, which is famous for its rich Gründerzeit architecture, and then leads the hiker along the bank of the Zschopau river. This section of the path is exceptionally quiet, romantic, and relaxing. From Unterrauschenthal a forest path leads up to the medieval Kriebstein Castle. Here is the famous Alexius Altar from the Waldheim monastery. Built in 1384, the castle belonged from 1537 for six years to the possession of Duchess Elisabeth of Saxony, who was a supporter of the Reformation and gently introduced it in her dominions. A tour through the castle with castle museum, knight's hall, castle chapel, and large banquet hall should not be missed.
