The region of the Saxon Uplands is known for its beautiful meadow floodplains and idyllic forest areas. The route begins at Gnandstein Castle, one of the best-preserved Romanesque castles in Saxony, and leads through the famous pottery town of Kohren-Sahlis along the Wyhra's meadow floodplains to the large district town of Borna.
As early as 1519, Borna was the first town in Ernestine Saxony where Protestant preaching took place. Here in Borna, Martin Luther wrote the famous Ash Wednesday letter on March 5, 1522, and preached four times in 1522 at St. Mary's Church. In front of the church is a special Luther monument created by the Burgdorf artist Hilko Schomerus and inaugurated in 2011. On Martin Luther Square today stands the Emmaus Church from Heuersdorf, which was relocated from Heuersdorf to Borna in October 2007 with a significant procession.
