In addition to the sights of the city of Leipzig, this stage of the trail offers hikers tranquil hiking trails through floodplains, woodland and small villages. Eilenburg, with its hilltop church and castle hill in the Mulde floodplain landscape, is known as a Mulde town with a green heart.
The route through the north of Leipzig leads through several parks and is therefore very scenic. The Luther Trail and the Ecumenical Pilgrimage Trail run together for part of the route. You can therefore follow both trail markings. After Leipzig, the route leads across river meadows and through small villages to the town of Eilenburg. Luther stayed in Eilenburg several times between 1518 and 1545. He also passed through Eilenburg on his way to the disputation in Leipzig in 1519 and the introduction of the Reformation in 1539.
