The Luther Trail leads hikers through the southern Leipzig Neuseenland, a recultivated former open-cast mining landscape with many lakes and an interesting history. Every year, numerous holidaymakers from Germany and abroad visit this area, where you can relax while hiking, cycling or doing water sports.
The trail is easy to walk as it runs along cycle paths and paved roads. The trail runs between various lakes to Neukieritzsch, where the Luther memorial on the town's market square commemorates the former Zöllsdorf estate. Katharina von Bora farmed this estate and produced food for the large household in Wittenberg. Luther had given her the estate as a gift in 1541 and it later became her widow's residence.
