The "Luther Trail Saxony" runs along the river "Pleiße" via the former royal seat of Altenburg to Borna on roads with little traffic and meadow paths. It is not only the large towns that are worth seeing. In the small villages along the way, you will also come across churches worth seeing and historically valuable houses.
This tour starts in Altenburg and leads past the Windischleuba dam. The Thuringian Luther Trail meets its Saxon counterpart at the Pahna lakeside campsite. It approaches the village of Whyra through dense forests. The trail continues via Zedtlitz, along the Whyra floodplain to the town center of Borna.
Altenburg has a special significance for the Reformation, as it was not only one of the most important residences of the Saxon electors. It is also associated with the name Georg Spalatin, who was the closest confidant, secretary and confessor of Elector Frederick the Wise. As a confidant of Luther, Spalatin was an important mediator between Luther and the Elector for many years.
