This hike is particularly suitable in sunny weather and can also be done with sledges if there is enough snow.
From the P+R car park, take a well-maintained asphalt path to Rathewalde. In Rathewalde, at the church, you don't find the right signpost for the right direction at first. However, just 20m after turning right, a small road leads diagonally uphill. Here you can also see the path that leads down to Amselgrund. On the Basteiweg (yellow line) you go south through a small ground and continue on the "Rathewalder Fußweg". The path invites you to chat as there are no treacherous spots. After about 500m you reach the road leading to the bastion. Walk parallel to the road on a good forest path in the direction of "Schwedenlöcher". As soon as you reach the Bastei car park, the number of people on the hiking trail increases, because now it is only a few metres to the world-famous Bastei bridge. Here you can buy souvenirs, have a snack or dine in the panorama restaurant. The numerous views at this place never cease to amaze.
On the way back, turn left at the souvenir stalls onto the Malerweg. This detour to the Stone Table is immediately quieter. The forest restaurant at the "Stone Table" is currently still being renovated. It is hoped that it will be possible to stop here in the coming winter. After the small "detour" to the Stone Table, you return to Basteistraße. Stay on this road until you reach the car park. After leaving the forest, you can see the Schrammsteine and the Napoleon Redoubt (near Hohnstein) on the horizon to the east.
This hike is a blue route (easy tour, mostly flat, often cleared, almost always hikeable).
Hiking poles and ice crutches, which are strapped under your shoes, can increase your personal off-road fitness. This equipment can be hired from the Tourist Service in Bad Schandau.
