Arrive at the top! Who doesn't know the Fichtelberg near Oberwiesenthal? At 1,215 metres, it is the highest mountain in Saxony. The town of Oberwiesenthal on the southern slope of the mountain is also Germany's highest town at 914 metres. By the way, you don't necessarily have to climb the Fichtelberg on foot. Germany's oldest aerial cableway has been taking people and equipment up to the summit for about 90 years, which Kammweg hikers merely note with a smile.

First we go downhill to the Cranzahltalsperre, which was built from 1949 to 1952 to provide drinking water for the city of Annaberg. With the help of the FDJ youth organisation, it was completed within three years. During this time it was given the nickname "Friendship Dam". The resting benches at the end of the 500 m long dam wall are inviting. We hike to the Toskabank, named after the head forester's daughter. For many years, a rest bench with a group of deer stood on the rocks at Toskaberg. Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed on Ascension Day. Today, thanks to the citizens of Neudorf, we can once again take possession of a beautifully carved seating group. Enjoying the silence, we stroll towards Kretscham - Rothensehma. Soon we can see the Fichtelberg and hear the horns and whistles of the Fichtelberg railway, which still runs daily between Cranzahl and Oberwiesenthal. If you have tired legs, you can even get to Oberwiesenthal from here at a speed of 25 km/h. Otherwise just follow the water treadmill. Otherwise, simply take a short break at the water treading facility, then continue with renewed vigour. After crossing the railway tracks, follow the "Floßzechen", "Bärenfang" and "Stümpel" paths further uphill. You can stop at the "Waldeck" sports hut before the ascent. Now it is time to mobilise the last of your strength. We climb the highest mountain in Saxony via the Himmelsleiter and the Amtssteig. Once at the top, we enjoy the panorama and are sure to sleep heavenly well.

Milestones: Bärenstein mountain - Cranzahl dam - Toskabank rest area - Kretscham-Rothensehma - Bimmelbahn adventure trail - Kreuzbrückfelsen - Fichtelchens Erlebnispfad - Rotes Vorwerk - Amtssteig - Fichtelberg plateau.
