Kammweg Section 03 "From Sayda to Seiffen"

Starting at Hotel Kreuztanne, we walk along the Alte Poststraße in the direction of Neuhausen, past the König-Friedrich-August-Höhe (736 m) through the high spruce forest. At the Großes Vorwerk we pass the Sayda - Neuhausen connecting road and follow the Saydaer Weg. After about 250 metres, the ridge trail turns off the path. We reach the Old Salt Road via a forest path at the refuge in the direction of Neuhausen. Only a few pass paths have led over the ridge coming from Bohemia since ancient times. These paths, also called "Böhmische Steige", were the forerunners of the trade routes later called "salt roads". With a wonderful view of the town, we reach Neuhausen downhill. The ridge trail leads directly past the glassworks museum, Purschenstein castle and park. These had a decisive influence on the history of the village.A short detour to the Nutcracker Museum and, right next to it, the Technical Chair Museum will delight the hiker. Entered in the Guinness Book of Records, the museum features the world's largest functioning pneumatically operated nutcracker (5.87 m high), one of over 6,000 wooden nutcrackers, and the world's largest music box. Visitors are asked to guess for themselves which song is playing. We then walk a short distance along the road towards Seiffen and then turn off onto a pleasant meadow path. Let's always take a look back at Neuhausen and catch our breath, for example at the Freiberg Biermann crossing. Visible from afar, the mountain inn with observation tower on the Schwartenberg (789 m) stands out. With a bit of luck, you can watch paragliders. Once at the top, a panoramic view compensates for the exertions of the ascent. In the Schwartenbergbaude we can take refreshments or continue downhill towards Seiffen. On natural paths we reach the toy village until we reach the old village road, which leads down to the main road.On the way, you can already see workshops everywhere in the houses, where smoking men, candle arches or pyramids are made in the most different variations. Hoop turning, a special form of woodturning unique in the world, was invented in Seiffen about 200 years ago. Show workshops and the Erzgebirge Toy Museum invite visitors to marvel all year round. This is why the town is considered a world-famous centre of Erzgebirge wood art. After 100 m on the main road, the Kammweg turns into the lane An der Binge and leads uphill to the Bergbausteig, an educational trail on the mining history of the village. The Binge "Geyerin", which houses an open-air stage inside, is a testimony to the old mining industry. After the Binge, you finally reach the mountain church of Seiffen on Deutschneudorfer Straße. The famous baroque church, which is also the landmark of the resort, marks the end of this stage.
