In Mühlleithen, starting from the Ferienhotel Mühlleithen, you walk a few meters along the federal highway B283. Shortly before the mountain pass at 861 m above sea level, a paved path, also marked as an educational trail, leads towards Winselburg. Right at the beginning of the paved section, you are offered a magnificent view of the winter sports resort Mühlleithen with ski slope and wood-paneled houses. At the former Winselburg nature conservation center, there is a small rest area with a view of a protected arnica meadow. Continuing through the forest, the path leads you past the charcoal burner’s pile and the Große Pinge. A detour to the visitor mine “Grube Tannenberg” is possible here.
Soon after, you should also plan a visit to the Vogtland-Bohemian Mineral Center before heading to the Schneckenstein viewpoint (856 m). It is the only above-ground topaz rock on the northern hemisphere. You continue hiking past the Schneckenstein settlement and the display heaps clockwise. Those who do not shy away from the steep ascent will be rewarded at the top of the heap with a magnificent view of the Sparkassen Vogtland Arena in Klingenthal. The arena, opened in 2006, is one of the most modern large ski jumping hills in Europe. Passing the Kielfloßgraben parking lot with a popular snack bar, you continue to the log slide and the pig pond, all parts of the historic Vogtland log floating system. After short ups and downs, you come straight to the Muldenberg reservoir and circle it on natural paths counterclockwise. Always keeping the reservoir in sight on the left, the path reaches the dam, which you cross directly. Nearby are several dining options and also a stop for the Vogtlandbahn. Continuing towards Schöneck alongside the reservoir, the hiking trail is soon accompanied by the Vogtlandbahn railway tracks. After a few hundred meters, the trail becomes a well-developed path that reaches the Schöneck sawmill after about 4 kilometers. You pass the Muldenquelle and can enjoy a cozy break at the Meiler snack bar. After a short walk through the forest, you have reached the stage destination, the IFA Ferienpark Schöneck. On the road past the parking lots, you cross the railway bridge. Here is a stop of the Vogtlandbahn as well as a hiking and cross-country skiing center. Towards the hotel, you will see a large signpost on the left after a few meters. A detour to the hotel is worthwhile not only for the refreshment but also for the magnificent view.
