The path follows the Röttiser Straße through Döbra to Röttis. From a small resting place at Döbra, there is an excellent view of the Elstertal Bridge. This impressive and historically interesting structure was built from about 12 million bricks. The bridge measures 68 meters in height and has a span of 279 meters. It was built as part of the construction of the Leipzig-Hof connection of the Saxon-Bavarian railway. The foundation stone was laid on November 7, 1846, followed by a 5-year construction period. The Elstertal Bridge can be walked at the foot of the second arch level. Two plaques installed there give insight into its eventful past.
Following the route, you reach the bridge directly from the turnoff at Barthmühlenstraße. In the area of the upper arches, the bridge is crossed, and a few meters later the descent into the valley of the White Elster takes place. Following the path along the Elster river, you pass the Devil’s Pulpit, a distinctive greenstone rock. Along the Nymphental, the path goes to the Pfaffenmühle. Restaurant, playground, and animal enclosure promise a pleasant stay.
The route continues through the Reißiger Forest, back towards Jößnitz. After a short distance, the railway is crossed via a bridge and the hike is completed heading towards the castle.
This route is also suitable for Nordic walking.
