A leisurely tour through the historic mill landscape of the neighborhoods of Hirschstein.

The Hirschstein Mill Trail is a tour just under 20 kilometers long that passes through nearly all of the districts of the municipality of Hirschstein and winds through a regional landscape where visitors can discover the history of numerous mills.

Information panels along the route offer fascinating insights into the history of the former mill sites.

The route passes through Pahrenz, where you can see the impressive tower-type Dutch windmill —a technical monument built in 1889 on the 141-meter-high Windmühlenberg and still open to visitors today. In the adjacent mill garden, you can also take a leisurely break (please check opening hours in advance).

The route continues to Neuhirschstein, where Hirschstein Castle towers over the Elbe—it can be visited during special events and by appointment.

In Boritz, a late-medieval cross stone is a sight to behold, and in Schänitz stands the stone Dutch-style windmill, one of the few surviving mills in this region. In Prausitz, the church and the remains of another windmill round out the exploration of this historic cultural landscape, which has much to offer both history buffs and nature lovers alike.
