"Up to the summit!" - The challenging hike to the second highest mountain of the Saxon Ore Mountains is rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view from the observation tower.
From the Tourist-Service-Center Eibenstock (640 m above sea level) initially out of the town and down into the beautiful wooded valley of the Große Bockau. After crossing the Rektorbrücke (the lowest point of the route at 570 m above sea level), the actual ascent begins on the Bärenweg. The last section up to the Auersberg leads literally over the Heavenly Ladder behind the "Großer Stern" (shelter) to the summit at 1,018 m. The hiker is also rewarded with a magnificent view from the oldest stone observation tower (1860) of the Ore Mountains. The adjacent mountain inn was built in 1907. The descent over the Schlangenweg reaches the idyllic Wildenthal, one of the first summer resorts of the Ore Mountains. Through the deeply incised valley of the Große Bockau you reach after about 5 km in a northerly direction the starting point again in Eibenstock. The entire circular hike leads through magnificent high forest and offers excellent views again and again. You will be accompanied on your route only by the rustling of the mighty treetops and the lively babbling of the streams.
