The starting point of the hike is the parking lot at the "Dreibrückenbad" directly on the B6 after entering the town from Leipzig. Turn right in a northerly direction and follow the promenade and signs for the Muldental hiking trail, one of the main tourist routes in the direction of Nischwitz. On Dorfstraße, walk past the church, castle and castle park and follow the next road to the left. Via Straße der Einheit and Thomas-Müntzer-Ring, you reach Canitz via a gravel path. Here it is worth leaving the route, which leads us left over a pedestrian bridge over the Mulde, and taking a detour to Canitz Park, a historic rest area. After crossing the Mulde bridge, follow the unpaved path straight ahead. After about 400 m, the alternative route of the Mulde cycle path leads you in the direction of Nepperwitz. Püchau Castle and Castle Park remain on the right, but are definitely worth a visit and are reached after 1.9 km when you leave the route. Shortly before Nepperwitz, you reach Püchauer Straße and turn left into the village. Following the alternative route of the Mulderadweg cycle path, you will soon reach Grubnitz. In the village, turn right onto Grubnitzer Weg. Follow Püchauer Straße to the left through Deuben, past the Protestant parish church with its Geißler organ. You then come to the B6 and turn right, leaving it after 700 meters to the left in the direction of Altenbach. After the railroad underpass, follow the road to the left and then immediately take the next right. Pausitzer Straße takes you past the Waldsiedlung housing estate and finally into the forest. Turn left into Karlsallee and follow the dead-straight forest path into the Vorderer Planitzwald. Cross Leulitzer Straße and turn left at the next crossroads onto the nature trail in the direction of Schmölen. Cross the Rehberg and Altenbacher Straße. From here, follow the course of the Muldental hiking trail again and pass the village of Schmölen. You reach the Mulde ferry via Fährstraße. After the crossing, take the path to the left and cross the Dehnitzer Lache, a tributary of the Mulde, and continue slightly uphill to Dehnitz. The Wachtelberg nature reserve with its observation tower is on the right. A detour is worthwhile, as is a visit to the Goldenes Tälchen nature trail. Continue left along the Dehnitzer Weg in the direction of Wurzen. Turn left again into Damaschkestraße and reach the Mulde river with its Mulde weir. Turn right onto the Mulde cycle path and walk along the canal directly to the starting point, the parking lot at the "Dreibrückenbad".
