This stage takes us to the cradle of the Vogtland. On Veitsberg and later with the construction of the Osterburg in Weida, the Vogts established their territorial lordship at the end of the 12th century.
It is recommended to go on foot to follow the traces. Using the well-marked network of hiking trails, you can enjoy an approximately 10 km long circular route. It connects the most beautiful sights with the almost untouched nature along the banks of the Weißer Elster and Weida. Two starting points are offered: the former nunnery and granary in Weida or the historic wooden bridge in Wünschendorf.
In Weida, the walk leads to the ancestral castle of the Vogts – the Osterburg. On a varied walk through the old town, Weida presents itself with its medieval sacred buildings: the town church St. Marien, the Peterskirche, and the Widenkirche.
In Wünschendorf, you encounter the oldest church in the Vogtland – the parish church St. Veit. On the way there lies the former home monastery of the Vogts of Weida: the Premonstratensian Abbey Mildenfurth. Relaxation, enjoyment, and individual accommodations can be found on this stage in Weida, Wünschendorf, and Endschütz.
