Explore the 450-hectare Werbeliner See lake. It is part of the northern Leipzig New Lake District and is located south of Delitzsch. ATTENTION - PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS LAKE IS NOT A BATHING LAKE!
The Delitzsch-Südwest open-cast mine, which was shut down in 1993, has now been transformed into a unique natural landscape following the flooding of the Neue Luppe. The post-mining landscape is now the habitat of numerous sensitive bird species. The magnificent view in the north of the lake far across the water accompanies you. With a bit of luck, you may spot some of the 179 bird species recorded to date, such as bluethroat, red-necked eagle and white-tailed eagle.
The Werbeliner See area is easily accessible for visitors. There are four large public parking lots at the edge of the lake. From there, several paths invite you to cycle, hike, skate, etc. You can linger at various viewpoints and rest areas. Here you can let your mind wander. Become one with nature and immerse yourself in this landscape of rare beauty.
