Where Russia's tsar rode the hammer

With the Saigerhütte Olbernhau, you can experience a unique witness to non-ferrous metallurgy worldwide. The smelter, where copper and silver were separated, is now preserved as a large open-air museum. On a tour, you will discover over 20 preserved buildings. Tsar Peter I has already visited the fully functional copper hammer and, according to legend, he is said to have ridden on the 6-centner hammer. This hammer mill can be admired every hour. On request and by prior arrangement, visitors can forge their own fortune or experience the play "Der Hüttenmatz" - fun for children and adults alike. The "Stockhausen" children's play world is located in the Saigerhütten area. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor play fun. Whatever the weather, you can let off steam here and Stockhausen is even worth a visit for adults.

Refreshment stops provide the necessary energy. A hearty lunch with typical Erzgebirge dishes in the "Hüttenschänke" restaurant, a delicious cake in the Café Hüttenmühle or a sporty evening in the bowling alley - the Saigerhütte area offers many possibilities.

If you have enough time, you should visit the small workshops and watch the craftsmen working with wood, glass, wax and clay - take a look at the central exhibition, the power station, the hut school, the workers' house and the hut store.
