The Arabian Coffe Tree

At a glance

In the heart of Leipzig´s old town, Germany’s oldest coffee house is located. Coffee, Saxony’s favourite drink, has been served here since 1711.

Germany’s oldest cafe is located in the heart of Leipzig’s historic city centre. Since 1711, coffee, the Saxons’ favourite drink, has been served here. The house takes its name “THE ARABIC COFFEE TREE” from the extraordinary building emblem on its facade. In the historic rooms of the cafe on the
ground floor, the visitor can see where many famous guests once sat - and can imagine them being there.

The Café Français, the Viennese cafe and an Arabic coffee shop will get you into the right mood for your visit to the museum on the upper floors. More than 500 exhibits convey an impression of the outstanding highlights and characteristic peculiarities of Saxon coffee culture.

Due to refurbishment of the building, the museum will be closed until further notice.
