The permanent exhibition at Sonnenstein commemorates the victims of the Nazi “Aktion T4” and showcases historical artifacts at the actual site.

In 1940 and 1941, more than 13,700 people with mental illnesses and disabilities were murdered at Sonnenstein Castle. The killing center was part of the Nazi extermination program “Aktion T4.”

Today’s exhibition documents the history of this site and showcases rooms that have been preserved in their original state. These include the former gas chamber and the crematorium area.

A memorial path marked with colored crosses commemorates the victims along the way. Information panels explain the historical background from the train station to the memorial.

Regular public guided tours complement the experience. Visitors should plan on spending about 2 hours for a tour.
