At a glance

500 animals, 120 species, near-natural enclosures, charming park, farm, Tibetan town, cottage garden, stork exhibition and many possibilities for playing.

In the middle of the Görlitz National Park and Zoo lies a piece of the Himalaya.

By now, five authentically reconstructed Tibetan houses stand on the premises of the 5-hectare-big animal park. In one of them one can see how the Tibetans are actually living. Spectacles sheep live in the adjacent enclosure; yaks, cashmere goats, Bactrian camels and Meishan pigs in the other buildings of the village. Home-grown domestic animals are accommodated in a farm in Upper Lusatian style. It primarily offers living space for old and endangered domestic animal breeds. That is why the Görlitz animal park is acknowledged as "Arche-Park" (Ark Park). The European and Asian wild animals of the "most beautiful small zoo" in Germany (Magazine STERN 2008) live in enclosures that have been designed close to nature. The ones for the Red Pandas and otters belong to the biggest of the world.
