Zoo Leipzig - on the trail of biodiversity in the urban jungle

Leipzig Zoo is one of the most modern zoos in the world. In the course of its transformation process, it has developed into a nature and species conservation center of the 21st century. With its Master Plan "Zoo of the Future" it has been setting standards in regional and international species conservation, species-appropriate animal husbandry and sustainability since 2000. New projects are constantly being implemented that focus on animal welfare and species conservation. This innovative approach as a bridge to nature combines extraordinary animal observations with a global commitment.

Six unique worlds of experience allow visitors to immerse themselves in the most fascinating habitats on earth and experience biodiversity. The Gondwanaland Tropical Adventure World with its tropical rainforest and the Pongoland facility, where all four great ape species live under one roof, are just two of the highlights. These impressive facilities not only offer unforgettable experiences, but also raise awareness for the protection of endangered animals and their habitats. Anyone who observes elephants bathing underwater in the Ganesha Mandir temple or snow leopards dozing in the Himalayas will understand the need to protect endangered species.

Further pieces of the Zoo of the Future puzzle are coming together this year: The walk-through bird worlds Amazonia and Loriversum, which opened in spring, offer fascinating insights into the extraordinary birdlife of Asia and South America at close quarters. The spectacular water world Feuerland for penguins and sea lions is another milestone that guests will be able to experience this year. A 360-degree tunnel provides unforgettable animal experiences with impressive underwater views. And the recently modernized terrarium also complements the offer and provides insights into the habitats of reptiles and amphibians.

Leipzig Zoo is not only a fascinating experience for the whole family, but also a place of learning and action for a sustainable future. Visitors can become part of this unique project and experience the world of animals in a special way.

Further exciting information is provided by the Podcast "Welcome to Leipzig" (episode 1) with the director of the zoo, Prof. Dr. Jörg Junhold.

Note: Dogs are not allowed at Leipzig Zoo. If you don't want to leave your dog alone, you are welcome to leave it at a nearby kennel.
