In the west of Leipzig, the Karl Heine Canal is an artificial watercourse that runs through the city and connects the Lindenau harbor with the Weiße Elster. The canal is spanned by a total of 15 bridges along the 3.3-kilometer stretch of water. During the warmer months of the year, the waterway can be navigated with small boats, which can be rented at Leipzig's city harbour and numerous other locations.

On a trip along the Karl Heine Canal, water hikers can see the bridges as well as former industrial architecture with artistic facades. You can reach the Leipzig New Lake District by boat via the connection to the White Elster.
