Antique museum of the University of Leipzig

At a glance

The museum accommodates an outstanding collection of ancient art and craftwork from Mediterranean countries.

Lucky for the Joe and Jane Lunch buckets among us, this museum is not only reserved for research purposes of the students of the University of Leipzig. Au contraire: The Antique museum is home to a public collection of antique treasures originating from the Mediterranean region that is unique in Saxony – and only comparable to the sculpture collection of the National Museums in Dresden. The Antique museum provides plenty of worthwhile information about the art and culture of the Greek-Roman ancient world and is considered to be one of the oldest and most important of its kind in Germany. Sculptures, busts, plaster casts – not interesting for kids? Far from it! The varied event offer including all its special exhibitions, guided tours, projects, and birthday parties organized for our little guests in the antique museum is fun at its best for both, kids and their parents. Playing with small bones – there´s no other place you´ll ever get the opportunity to do stuff like this. Apart from this, the museum comes up with a fine art workshop allowing you to create your very own masterpieces of jewelry in line with the antique tradition.
