Germany's largest international festival for contemporary stage art is coming to Chemnitz in 2026.
From June 18 to July 5, 2026, Chemnitz will be the venue for one of the most important international festivals for contemporary performing arts: Theater der Welt Chemnitz 2026, a festival that has been taking place in a different German city every three years since 1986.
The festival brings around 40 productions to stages and public spaces. With artists from all continents, a program is created that combines dance, theater, opera, music, concert, performance, club culture and discourse. Open, multilingual and barrier-free, Theater der Welt Chemnitz 2026 is aimed at a curious, diverse audience - and at everyone who not only wants to see theater, but also wants to help shape it.
The organizers are Theater Chemnitz, The Festival Academy Brussels and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH. The city and the entire region see themselves as a place of new beginnings: together with local initiatives, international partners and civic engagement, a festival is being created that crosses borders and creates connections.
